Following the successful open meetings in the Three Horseshoes itself on Sunday 8 May and Friday 27 May, the volunteers on the steering group had their first meeting on 27 May 2011 in the Charsfield Village Hall.
We decided to call ourselves the Friends of the Three Horseshoes (FROTH). That was the name used in 1997 last time there was a campaign to save Charsfield’s pub.
We agreed that our main objective is to keep a thriving and successful pub in the village.
We will contact Edward Bolton to see how we can help him to sell it to someone who will run it as a pub or get new tenants, perhaps by some joint publicity or other activities.
But we will also look at other options in case that does not work. The group will see how the village could get together and buy the pub, maybe to make it more a centre of activity for everyone and not just a pub. There are lots of examples around the country where that has happened in villages like Charsfield. We will find out how they did it and see if it could work for us. We will look into things like viability. We will get an independent valuation of the pub. We will give an initial report to everyone at the social planned for Saturday 25 June in the Village Hall.
The next meeting of the steering group will be on Friday 3 June.
Anyone who wants to join the steering group or wants to know more about what we are doing should email froth@charsfield.org.uk
