Edward Bolton, who owns the freehold, has not yet responded to our invitation to meet up. [Update: He has now written to us. His letter is entirely friendly and says he is committed to keeping the pub as a pub and wants to make improvements to the facilities, but he has not responded to our offer of assistance in marketing the pub, nor our offer to meet. Copy on www.froth.org.uk ]
In the meantime, we have continued our investigation into how the village could get together and buy the pub, maybe to make it more a centre of activity for everyone and not just a pub. We are getting a good response to our web site.
We made arrangements for the meeting/social on Saturday 25 June including for posters and leaflets. We discussed the arrangements for the evening.
At the meeting on 25 June we will report on what we have done so far (and circulate a written report). We will collect ideas for what people would like to have at the pub in terms of facilities and activities. We will ask, in general terms, whether people in the village would, if the terms were right, be willing financially to support a community buy-out of the pub; we will identify some of the main options and we will ask if people have particular questions they want answering in relation to the options as we work them up. If there is general support in that way, we would then work up the options to prevent them in more detail at the party/meeting scheduled for Saturday 23 July.
Our next meeting will be after the meeting and party on 25 June 2011.
Anyone who wants to join the steering group or wants to know more about what we are doing should email froth@charsfield.org.uk or check on www.froth.org.uk
The members of the steering group at the moment are: Amanda Illing, Andy Wyatt, Clive Gregory, Dave Whitley, David Wolfe, Di Alexander, Jane Beard, Mandy Morton, Pauline Llewellyn, Steve Moor, Tim Goddard.
